2013, mixed media installation
Materialised Distance – ceramic sculpture, 23x17x15 cm:
The space between the figures’ hands was captured with a high-precision 3D laser camera, translated into a 3D print, and then cast into a ceramic form. What once was an unresolvable, negative space is transformed into a palpable mass.
Did I miss you again? – two 3D printed figures, two horizontal clocks, 25×30 cm each:
The most recent piece within The Shake series sees miniature replicas of Maurice Harron’s two figures, also 3D scanned in high detail, placed at the center of two clocks. Each clock is set to a time zone which corresponds to significant coordinates and moments in ongoing political conflicts. The pairs of counterposed figures rotate with the passing seconds, their outstretched hands recreating Harron’s moment of unresolved reconciliation; continuously converging and inevitably missing.

- Stargarder Straße 10
Born in 1976 in Damascus Suburb, and currently based in Berlin, Khaled Barakeh is a conceptual artist and cultural activist. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus, Syria in 2005, received his MFA at Funen Art Academy in Odense, Denmark in 2010 and in 2013, he completed a Meisterschuler study at the Städelschule Art Academy in Frankfurt a.M., Germany. The geographical shift in Khaled Barakeh’s life – moving from Syria to Europe – resulted in major changes in his approach toward
his work; originally trained as a painter, he then developed a stronger focus on contemporary art practices. Today, his multilayered works still show influences of traditional methods and techniques while forming a modern collection built through the use of a variety of media.
