Girl on Tricycle
Acrylics on canvas, 60×80 cm, 2022
I have this memory of my friend riding a broken and rusty tricycle and a famous children’s song is playing in my mind while I watch her. Some of the words of the children’s song are written in the background.

Gidi Gilam, born in Tel Aviv, lives and works in Berlin.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in History and Philosophy from Tel Aviv University and a bachelor’s degree from the Visual Communications Department at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design. He was awarded a D.A.A.D. scholarship, Rabinovitch grant and Mifaal HaPais. His works have been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world and are in several private collections in USA, Israel, Germany and France.
Gidi Gilam’s paintings condense and compress an everyday narrative.
It might be something small and mundane in the context of human progress but it is under a spot light in the daily minute to minute perception of life. He paints a scene that encompasses an emotion or a big idea but
in a fraction of life, in a moment.
Gilam’s paintings are figurative and favor a carefully selected pop color palette and contrary to that are skeptical and at times bad-tempered. This form of visual tension invites the viewer to discover their subjective narratives within the paintings and thus offer another layer of interpretation.
